Join Larry Gordon and his band of remarkable singers for a joyous weekend of singing from various world harmony traditions: South African songs and dances, traditional songs from Georgia, Corsica and the Balkans, American shape-note and Appalachian harmonies, and some early music.
Teaching is mostly by ear with some written transcriptions. With Northern Harmony’s brilliant young singers always on hand to teach and lead each vocal part, the teaching is particularly efficient and rewarding. Northern Harmony has decades of experience with these varied singing styles and they always devote a lot of attention to the different sing techniques and timbres and body language appropriate to these different singing traditions.
The venue is the Birchcliffe Centre, a large repurposed chapel and a wonderful and spacious singing and dancing space. Accommodations are in the adjacent Hebden Bridge Hostel with additional more private rooms in the nearby Leeming Wells.
The weekend begins with supper on Friday evening and finishes after lunch on Sunday.
On Saturday night there will be a ceilidh, featuring performances by Northern Harmony and participatory dancing (European Bal folk and simple New England contras) with live music by the Northern Harmony band.
